JACQUES NEEFS, the James M. Beall Professor of French, comes to The Johns Hopkins University from the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris where he directed a research program in textual genetics. A professor at the University of Paris since 1971, he initiated several programs of teaching and research with universities in Europe, the U.S., China and Russia. He has also served as the Louis Marin Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Krieger School at Johns Hopkins. In that role, he was a dissertation advisor for numerous Hopkins graduate students in the humanities. He is a professor within the Department of German and Romance Languages at Johns Hopkins, specializing in 19th and 20th century French literature.
