DONALD S. COFFEY, SOM 1964 (PhD), the Catherine Iola and J. Smith Michael Distinguished Professor of Urology, has been at Hopkins since 1959. A prominent urological scientist, Dr. Coffey is a professor of urology, oncology, pharmacology, and molecular sciences, and is also a member of the principal professional staff at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. A past president of the American Association for Cancer Research and the Society for Basic Urologic Research, Dr. Coffey served for 19 years as a member of the National Prostatic Cancer Program of the National Cancer Institute, and as the national chairman from 1984-88. Dr. Coffey has published over 290 research papers and five books and is the recipient of two Merit Awards from the National Institutes of Health. In 2006, the president of the United States appointed Dr. Coffey to a six-year term as a member of the National Cancer Advisory Board.
