David M. Lampton

DAVID M. LAMPTON, the George and Sadie Hyman Professor of China Studies and director of the China Studies Program and SAIS China, is the author, co-author, or editor of ten books, including his most recent, Following the Leader: Ruling China, from Deng Xiaoping to Xi Jinping, detailing how the attitudes and ideas of China’s leaders have evolved over the past four decades. A member of the faculty since 1997, he is former president of the National Committee on US-China Relations and current director of China Programs at The Nixon Center, and former dean of faculty at Johns Hopkins SAIS. He is Chairman of the Asia Foundation and sits on multiple other non-profit and for-profit boards.
