Rebecca Henry

Henry.RebeccaREBECCA HENRY, inaugural holder of the Scott Bendann Faculty Chair in Classical Music, joined the Peabody Preparatory faculty in 1987. Within the Preparatory, she chairs the Peabody Preparatory String Department, teaches violin and viola, and is co-director of the Peabody Chamber Camp. In 2007 she received funding from the Dorothy and Richard Starling Foundation to develop Peabody’s Pre-Conservatory Violin Program, which she directs. During her tenure as chair, she has recruited and trained a staff of talented and dedicated violin faculty who work together to ensure the continued creative evolution of the Peabody String Program. At the same time, she has also been a member of the Peabody Conservatory, instructing violin and viola minors, teaching violin pedagogy, and mentoring students in the Master of Performance/Pedagogy degree. In 1991, she was named Maryland String Teacher of the Year by the American String Teachers Association. She has developed a master class for outstanding students in the Preparatory String Program, and most recently she has been deeply involved in the creation of the Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy at the Conservatory. Ms. Henry holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Indiana University, Bloomington.
