Samuel C. Durso

SAMUEL C. “CHRIS” DURSO, Bus 2004 (Certif.), 2007 (MBA), the Mason F. Lord Professor of Geriatric Medicine, was named director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology in 2010. Dr. Durso joined the faculty in 1995 after spending 14 years in private practice as an internist in Columbia, SC. At Hopkins, he assumed increasing leadership as a clinician and teacher in the division, the School of Medicine and nationally. He has held various leadership positions, including director of the Fellowship Program in Geriatric Medicine, Clinical Director of the division, and he currently serves as co-director of the Johns Hopkins Memory & Alzheimer’s Treatment Center. In 1999 he was named Clinician of the Year by the American Geriatrics Society and in 2009 received the Dennis W. Jahnigen Award from the society in recognition of his national leadership in education.

Dr. Durso graduated from Baylor College of Medicine with honors, where he was elected to AOA, followed by internship and residency in internal medicine at University of Alabama Hospitals. Dr. Durso is the author of Teaching Ambulatory Medicine: Moving Medical Education into the Office and the editor of Oxford American Handbook of Geriatric Medicine and the editor for Reichel’s Care of the Elderly (7^th Edition, Cambridge University Press).
