Scott M. Wright

SCOTT M. WRIGHT, MD received his medical degree from McGill University, and completed his internal medicine residency training at McGill’s Montreal General Hospital. He came to Johns Hopkins in 1995 for training in medical education as part of the General Internal Medicine Fellowship. He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1997 and became Professor of Medicine in 2008. With colleagues, he established the Miller-Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence in 2009, and since then he has been serving as its Director. In 2011, Scott succeeded one of his mentors, Dr. David Kern, to become the Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Dr. Wright is internationally recognized as an expert in medical education research. From 2002-2006, a professorship from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation supported his research efforts that were focused primarily on the impact of role models in medical education, professional growth of physicians, and promoting humanism in medicine. In recognition of his research accomplishments, Dr. Wright was elected to membership in the American Society for Clinical Investigation in 2009.

Dr. Wright has been teaching clinical medicine to medical students and residents as an attending physician on the inpatient general medical services since 1995, and continues to teach in several different curricula. He mentors many trainees and faculty members from multiple departments. Related to his work as a teacher and mentor, he has won institutional awards as well as those from The American College of Physicians, The Society for General Internal Medicine, and The Association of American Colleges. He was also recognized with membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. 

 Dr. Wright was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. He now resides in Crownsville, Maryland with his wife Annie, their three children Jasmine, Spencer and Baxter, and their dog Lucy. He is extremely honored to hold the Anne Gaines and G. Thomas Miller Professorship in Medicine, and shares the vision of the Miller family to strive for excellence and to be of service to others.
