Theresa A. Shapiro

THERESA A. SHAPIRO, Med 1976, 1978 (PhD), the Wellcome Professor of Clinical Pharmacology, is director of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, and professor of medicine and of pharmacology and molecular sciences. Her research is focused on the discovery and development of new drugs for sleeping sickness and malaria. Her investigator-initiated trial of atovaquone was pivotal for FDA approval of this agent for use in malaria chemprophylaxis. Dr. Shapiro has served on expert committees for the World Health Organization, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Pharmacopeia.
