William B. Isaacs

IsaacsWilliamWILLIAM B. ISAACS, Med 1984 (PhD), the William Thomas Gerrard, Mario Anthony Duhon, and Jennifer and John Chalsty Professor of Urology, earned his doctorate in pharmacology and molecular science from Johns Hopkins in 1984 and joined the faculty in the Department of Urology in 1988. With his colleagues, Dr. Isaacs, who holds a joint appointment in oncology, mapped the first major hereditary prostate cancer gene located on chromosome 1. His research focuses on identifying genes contributing to the development of prostate cancer, as a means toward understanding the molecular basis for inherited prostate cancer. It is anticipated that the identification of these genes will offer insight into the molecular pathogenesis of prostate cancer and provide new targeted approaches for the effective diagnosis and treatment of this common cancer.
