Benjamin H. Griswold III Chair in Public Policy
BENJAMIN H. GRISWOLD III, a university trustee from 1951 to 1980 and thereafter trustee emeritus, was senior partner of the Baltimore investment firm of Alex. Brown & Sons, whose partners endowed this chair in his honor to recognize his leadership and longtime generosity at Johns Hopkins. Mr. Griswold served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, for which he earned British, French, and American medals recognizing his participation in the North African invasion. He was a director of Fidelity & Deposit Company of Maryland, Black & Decker, the A.S. Abell Company, and many other firms in the region. Mr. Griswold died on January 16, 2006.
