Gompf Family Professorship in Chemistry
THOMAS E. GOMPF was born in Elizabeth, NJ but spent most of his childhood on a farm in Pikesville, MD. He received his BA, MA in Chemistry and PhD in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1946. While at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Gompf met his future wife, Elaine Everett Knorr and they later married in 1950. He spent most of his career as a research chemist for Eastman Kodak Co and was the holder of 10 U.S. patents.
