Morris W. Offit Chair in International Finance
MORRIS W. OFFIT, A&S 1957, founder of OFFITBANK, a private investment bank which merged with Wachovia in 1999, is currently chairman of Offit Capital. Mr. Offit is an emeritus university and medicine trustee and former chair of the SAIS Board of Advisors. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by Hopkins in 1996, when he stepped down as chairman of the university Board of Trustees. The Baltimore native also chaired the very successful Campaign for Johns Hopkins in the 1980s.
In 1998, he was honored as Philanthropist of the Year by the Greater New York Chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives. The award honored Mr. Offit’s longtime leadership at Johns Hopkins, as well as his service at a broad range of New York area civic, religious, educational, and preservationist organizations, including the Jewish Museum, Columbia University Teachers College, and the Union Theological Seminary.
Mr. Offit’s sons Ned Offit, A&S 1987, and Daniel Offit are graduates of the Nitze School.
