Paul R. McHugh Professorship in Motivated Behaviors
PAUL R. McHUGH, former director of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the hospital, has been widely recognized for his efforts to bring clarity and conceptual structure to psychiatry. Since his arrival at Hopkins in 1975, Dr. McHugh forged a department considered one of the best in the world. His book, The Perspectives of Psychiatry, co-authored with Phillip R. Slavney, presents the framework of thought that has characterized his department. His own research focuses on the neuroscientific foundations of motivated behaviors, psychiatric genetics, epidemiology, and neuropsychiatry. Dr. McHugh was named a University Distinguished Professor in 1998.
