ARTHUR D. CHAMBERS, A&S 1897 (PhD), enjoyed a long and successful career with DuPont, which he helped convert from a producer of explosives to a manufacturer of chemical dyestuffs. When he retired in 1944, the DuPont dye works on the east bank of the Delaware River at Deepwater, New Jersey, were named The Chambers Works in his honor.

PAUL J. DAGDIGIAN, the Arthur D. Chambers Professor of Chemistry, is internationally known for his long career involving the study of the dynamics of gas-phase molecular collision processes. A relatively new thrust in his laboratory is the development of sensitive laser-based methods for the detection of species in trace quantities. Dr. Dagdigian began his academic career in 1974 in the Hopkins Chemistry Department and served as department chair from 1998 through 2005. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, for which he served as chair of the Division of Chemical Physics for two years. In 2005-2006, he was a visiting fellow at JILA, a branch of the National Institutes of Science and Technology located on the campus of the University of Colorado, Boulder. In 2007 he was named Maryland Chemist of the Year by the American Chemical Society’s Maryland Section.
