FRANK V. SUTLAND, a dentist in Troy, New York, and a 1924 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, established a network of Sutland Dental Clinics across New York and Pennsylvania. The clinics emphasized dentistry for children and the handicapped. He was an active supporter of numerous charities and hosted a radio program for children, showcasing young talent and imparting health information. He died in 1989 at the age of 87.

ADA HAMOSH, SPH 1989, the Dr. Frank V. Sutland Professor of Pediatric Genetics, is a member of the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine. Her association with genetic medicine started in 1989, when she began her fellowship in medical and biochemical genetics. She has served as the clinical director of the Institute of Genetic since September of 2004. Dr. Hamosh is a professor of pediatrics, with a joint appointment in epidemiology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is the scientific director of Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) since 2001. The molecular basis of mendelian disorders and the genetic basis of variability within single gene disorders is the core of her professional interests through both OMIM and research.
