Drew Family Professorship in Urogynecology

Established in 2020 by Dr. Howard ("Howie") and Mrs. Ina Drew, through the Drew Charitable Fund.

Mrs. INA DREW is an independent consultant. She retired from JPMorgan Chase in 2012 after a thirty-year career with the firm and its predecessor banks.

She was Chief Investment Officer and a member of the Operating Committee from 2005-2012. Ina serves as Trustee and Board Member of Barnard College, is a Board Member and Trustee of Johns Hopkins Medicine and a Trustee Emeritus of The Johns Hopkins University after serving on the University Board for 12 years.

Previously, she was Head of Global Treasury from 2000-2005 and Head of Domestic Treasury from 1991-2000. Mrs. Drew was named Managing Director in 1986 and held various senior roles in capital markets, treasury and investments through seven mergers after joining Chemical Bank in 1982. She is a past member of the US Treasury Department Borrowing Advisory Committee.

Mrs. Drew serves as Trustee and Board Member of Barnard College, is a Board Member and Trustee of Johns Hopkins Medicine and a Trustee Emeritus of The Johns Hopkins University after serving on the University Board for 12 years. She also served on the Board of Legal Momentum for a decade, the country’s oldest Women’s Legal Advocacy Group.

Mrs. Drew earned a B.A. in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University in 1978 and a Master’s Degree in International Studies from Columbia University in 1979.

Dr. HOWARD DREW is a Professor, Director of Implantology, and the Vice Chairman of the Department of Periodontics at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM), New Jersey Dental School (NJDS), in Newark, NJ. Dr. Drew teaches both pre- and post-doctoral students, co-directs the third-year undergraduate didactic periodontal therapy course, and contributes to the implant surgical program in the periodontal graduate division.

As an active member of the NJDS community, Dr. Drew serves on the Implant Steering and Continuing Education Committees and leads the Postgraduate Mentoring Program. Additionally, he is a Past-President of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) National Dental Honor Society.

Dr. Drew received his B.A. degree in 1978 from Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, M.D., his D.M.D. degree from RSDM-NJDS in 1982, and his Postdoctoral certificate in periodontics from RSDM-NJDS in 1984. In private practice since 1984, Dr. Drew has also been a faculty member at NJDS since graduating.

Often recognized by the dental profession and students alike, Dr. Drew was named one of the best dentists in New Jersey in 2002 by New Jersey Monthly. In 2003, he received the Platinum Preferred Recognition award from Implant Innovations, Inc. His students recognized him with the Excellence in Teaching Award, in 2008, and, in 2009, Dr. Drew received the prestigious American Academy of Periodontology Educator Award. In 2010, Dr. Drew joined an elite group of RSDM faculty members deemed to be the best: the Stuart D. Cook Master Educators’ Guild. The Guild recognizes faculty members who advance the university’s educational mission in extraordinary ways. Furthermore, he was inducted into the American College of Dentists in 2011. In 2012, he was awarded the RSDM Alumni Association Decade (1980’s) Award. Dr. Drew has over 30 publications and has lectured throughout the country.

Dr. VICTORIA HANDA is a Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and the Deputy Director (vice chair) for the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Department of Gyn/Ob.

In addition to her leadership, Dr. Handa is the quintessential “triple threat” academic physician because of her work as a clinician, researcher, and educator. She is a gifted surgeon and a world-renowned expert in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery.

Dr. Handa serves as co-editor of the TeLinde’s Operative Gynecology, a leading text of surgical gynecology. She is an equally accomplished scientist whose research includes clinical trials, health services, and epidemiology with a focus on pelvic floor disorders and other conditions that disproportionately affect women.  Dr. Handa has authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers. Her research has been recognized with numerous awards, including a 2011 Pitkin Prize from the American College of Ob/Gyn, the 2007 President’s Award from the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, the 2015 American Journal of Ob/Gyn Impact Award, and several awards from the American Urogynecologic Society.

Dr. Handa is also recognized as a successful and sought-after mentor. At Johns Hopkins, she chairs the Advisory Board for the Johns Hopkins Women’s Reproductive Health Research Career Development Program (WRHR) and is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Scholars in Women’s Health (BIRCWH). Nationally, she participates in two programs that support the career development of early-career scientists: the NIH-funded AUGS/DUKE UrogynCREST Program (R25HD094667), for which she is a scientific mentor, and the Early Career Research Leadership Program of the American Urogynecologic Society, for which she serves as its national chair.
