Endowed Professorship of Disability Health and Justice

School of Nursing

Established in 2023 by The Maryland E-Nnovation Initiative Fund Authority, the estates of Ms. Charlotte B. Lockner (School of Nursing, Class of 1955) and Mr. Ralph S. O’Connor (University Trustee, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, Class of 1951), and Antoinette Delruelle & Joshua L. Steiner.

The Endowed Professorship of Disability Health and Justice aims to push scientific discovery and innovation and increase access and equity for all people with disabilities.

Held by Bonnielin K. Swenor

BONNIELIN K. SWENOR, PHD, MPH, is the founder and director of the Johns Hopkins Disability Health Research Center, which aims to shift the paradigm from “living with a disability” to “thriving with a disability” through research, education, and policy.

Dr. Swenor’s research is motivated by her personal experience with low vision and takes a data-driven approach to advancing equity for people with disabilities and promoting disability inclusion and accessibility. Her work drives systemic-level change and spans multiple domains, such as promoting health equity, access to healthcare, economic mobility, education, and STEM careers for people with disabilities.

Dr. Swenor, a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, holds joint appointments at the School of Medicine’s Wilmer Eye Institute and in the Department of Epidemiology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
