John G. Rangos Sr. Professorship of Adult Medicine

Established in 2001 by John G. Rangos Sr. through the John G. Rangos Sr. Charitable Foundation

RangosJohnJOHN G. RANGOS SR. has referred hundreds of family, friends, and colleagues to Hopkins. “They’ve all come back with great results because the doctors at Hopkins truly care,” he says. Formerly the chairman of Chambers Development Company and vice-chair of the board for USA Waste Services, Inc., Mr. Rangos currently heads The John G. Rangos Sr. Charitable Foundation, the Medal of Honor Foundation, and the American Hellenic Information and Communications Group. In addition, he is the founding chairman and honorary lifetime president of the International Orthodox Christian Charities. A resident of Pittsburgh, he is on the boards of Carnegie-Mellon University, the Pittsburgh Opera, Duquesne University, and the University of Pittsburgh. His commitment to establish this professorship in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Gastroenterology will support new research initiatives in colon cancer.

GiardelloFrancisFRANCIS M. GIARDIELLO, the inaugural John G. Rangos Sr. Professor of Adult Medicine, is professor of medicine, oncology, and pathology. Dr. Giardiello participated in the discovery of the first colorectal cancer susceptibility gene mutation and is regarded as an authority in the polyposis syndromes. The many honors and awards recognizing his work include election to The Best Doctors in America and a Hopkins Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching.
