Julia G. Levy, Ph.D. Professorship in Ophthalmology

LevyJuliaJULIA G. LEVY, PhD, co-founder of QLT Inc. in 1981, has served in several key senior posts, including chief scientific officer and vice president, as well as president and CEO from 1995 to 2002. A fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and former president of the Canadian Federation of Biological Scientists, Dr. Levy has earned numerous awards and honors including an appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada and the Future of Vision Award from the Foundation Fighting Blindness in 2001. In 2003, she was presented with the Helen Keller Prize for Innovation in Eye Care.

BresslerSusanDr. SUSAN B. BRESSLERĀ is the Julia G. Levy, Ph.D. Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist and has subspecialty training in medical retinal disorders, vitreoretinal disease, and retinal surgery. Her main research interest has been collaborative efforts in clinical trials. She has served as principal investigator of an image reading center that has served as a central unit for many clinical trials and epidemiologic investigations, as Vice Chair of the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network, and as principal investigator of a participating clinical center in several major clinical trials. Most of her studies have specific emphasis on the treatment of both non-neovascular and neovascular age-related macular degeneration and all aspects of diabetic retinopathy.

Dr. Bressler has a large national and international referral practice. In addition, she has published 223 peer-reviewed articles and 55 book chapters. Her editorial board positions have included those of: American Journal of Ophthalmology, Survey of Ophthalmology, Retina, EyeNet Magazine, Health After 50: The Johns Hopkins Medical Letter, and the Wilmer Retina Update.
