LaihoMarikkiMARIKKI K. LAIHO, the Willard and Lillian Hackerman Professor of Radiation Oncology, directs the Division of Molecular Radiation Sciences in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Johns Hopkins. The recently established division focuses on the basic mechanistic aspects of cellular responses to genetic lesions and strives toward translating this information to improved cancer therapies. Dr. Laiho is interested in the relevance and implications of cellular DNA damage response in cancer, and has published nearly 70 peer-reviewed articles on the results of her research. Dr. Laiho also holds a part-time position as professor in molecular cancer medicine at the University of Helsinki, where she earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Licentiate of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Medical Science (PhD) degrees. She was awarded the Helsinki City Science Prize in 2003.
